On December 28, according to media reports, HYBE reportedly decided to terminate NJZ (NewJeans) Danielle’s exclusive contract due to breaches in contract terms.
An anonymous insider stated, “While HYBE is preparing for an official announcement regarding the return of Hanni and Minji, action will be taken against Danielle, including contract termination.”
Termination of the contract due to breach of contract terms could mean that all NJZ members are subject to termination as well. However, HYBE’s specific targeting of Danielle for termination has sparked widespread criticism within the industry, with many questioning if this is a “retaliatory contract termination.”
Legal experts have expressed concern that HYBE’s retaliatory measures could be a legal vulnerability, as HYBE had promised to resume NJZ activities after winning a lawsuit in October to confirm the validity of their contracts. At the time, HYBE stated, “We have completed all preparations for NJZ’s activities, including the release of a full-length album.”
Another legal expert commented, “HYBE’s selective dispositions are highly likely to be used as unfavorable evidence against HYBE when the court determines responsibility for the breach of trust.”
