“Single’s Inferno 5” Sparks Controversy Over Sexuality Even Before Its Release
Single’s Inferno 5, set to premiere worldwide on the 20th, is a bold and honest dating reality show featuring singles on an isolated island, where participants can only leave if they form couples.
The main poster, revealing the singles’ visuals for the first time, has ignited online buzz, drawing keen attention to the fifth season of Single’s Inferno, the unrivaled leader in dating reality shows. Producer Kim Jae Won expressed, “The biggest driving force that brought Single’s Inferno to its fifth season is the love from viewers,” sharing his thoughts on this milestone as Netflix Korea’s first variety show to reach five seasons.

Season 5 of Single’s Inferno stars the “romance masters” MC Hong Jin Kyung, Lee Da Hee, Han Hae, Kyuhyun, and Dex, all emphasizing that this is a “crazy season.” Producer Kim Jung Hyun highlighted the difference, saying, “This season had more main characters than any before. Rather than focusing the narrative on one or two star participants, it showcased various characters’ stories interestingly, much like the multi-cast film Love Actually,” hinting at an epic season ahead.
The tagline “Line-Crossing Flirting War” released earlier sets the expectation for even bolder and more candid actions from the singles. Producer Park Soo Ji stated, “Single’s Inferno is defined by one irreplaceable element: the essence of its participants,” and added that they will continue to feature participants who embody the “Single’s Inferno ideal,” top predators in the dating market — a core element that won’t change.
Notably, this fifth season features the largest number of attractive singles to date. Producer Kim Jae Won explained, “Through the previous season’s ‘megastar survival’ format, we realized that with more participants, fans have different favorites, which actually works better,” adding, “The effect was tremendous. Season 5 made us realize how many participants in Korea truly have the potential to become reality stars,” raising anticipation even higher.
From intense emotional clashes to rich, heartfelt romance and unpredictable thrilling twists, the ever-changing emotional narratives of the singles are the key highlights that have turned viewers’ dopamine levels to paradise every season. This season, too, captivates with stories even more dramatic than dramas, seen only on Single’s Inferno.
To achieve this, the expert production team behind the ultimate “romance savvy” has updated new “emotional trigger” mechanisms by pouring in their experience. Producer Kim Jae Won said, “We have worked hard to maximize the initial concept of self-sufficiency on a deserted island. Especially, we tried to make it a fitting island for the name ‘Hell Island,’” raising expectations for a hellish side as intense and fiery as its sweeter paradise counterpart. He added confidently, “It’s not just the number of participants that increased; the excitement and thrill have grown just as much.”
Even before its release, Single’s Inferno 5 sparked controversy over its provocative teaser, becoming a hot topic.
