…though not all of them are positive.

The lineup includes four members—Zhang Hao, Ricky, Kim Gyuvin, and Han Yujin—who were previously part of the final debut group ZEROBASEONE from Mnet’s survival program Boys Planet. Additionally, on April 3, 2026 (KST), the agency confirmed that Yoo Seungeon, who had been active in the official Boys Planet spin-off group EVNNE, would also be joining. As a result, the group is composed entirely of idols with prior project group experience.

Following the announcement, online communities quickly filled with commentary questioning the decision-making behind the formation of what many are calling a “not-so-rookie” boy group.

Much of the backlash appears to stem from unmet expectations. Earlier reports suggested that additional members, including unrevealed trainees, would be added to the lineup, leading fans to anticipate a larger group. However, when the agency confirmed a five-member debut with no further additions, reactions quickly soured across online communities.

The controversy has since escalated beyond online commentary. In an unusual move, fans have reportedly begun organizing mass trending campaigns—not to remove members, but to demand that more be added. Plans for protest trucks and wreath demonstrations are also said to be underway, signaling growing dissatisfaction within the fandom.

  • “But if I were one of the unrevealed trainees and I had the choice to debut with this group or in a brand new group, I would definitely want to debut in a new group.”
  • “From a fan’s perspective, though, isn’t a 5-member group better than a bigger one?”
  • “Oh… As expected from Yue Hua.”
  • “So out of touch… Tsk tsk. Should’ve just done what IVE did.”
  • “If this was going to be the outcome, why didn’t they just extend the contracts?”
  • “For nugu agencies, though, brand new groups come with more risk. There’s no guarantee the group will take off. So trainees might not necessarily want to debut in a brand new group either. Regardless, this is clearly a company decision.”
  • “Honestly, though, adding trainees as new members would only feel like trying to present the re-debuting members as rookies LOL. And there’s always the chance that if a new member gets more popular, takes center, becomes the new maknae, and/or grows closer to certain members with existing dynamics, I feel like fans would turn on them immediately.”
  • “What a waste of Han Yujin…”
  • Sigh. Y’all are spending money sending protest trucks… But once they debut, you’ll spend even more money on them again as fans, right? Instead of wasting money on men like that, just spend it on your hobbies.”
  • “This honestly feels like a subunit from the OG group.”
  • “At the end of the day, it’s the company’s decision—why are people getting this worked up?”

Stay tuned for updates.
