2nd Gen Boy Group Member Under Fire For Using Explicit Words

He did not know the context.

Former BEAST (Highlight) member Jang Hyunseung has issued an apology after facing criticism for using an online slang term with controversial associations. The issue began after screenshots of conversations between Jang Hyunseung and fans on a fan communication platform spread across online communities.

When a fan asked him about the meaning of the Gen Z slang term “yareu”, Jang Hyunseung responded that it was “a perfect replacement forAnggimotti.’”  While ‘anggimotti” is used by some internet users as an expression meaning something like feeling really good, the phrase has also reportedly been used in certain online communities with more controversial or explicit associations. The phrase is also frequently used on sites such as Ilbe, a site known as “an incel site” by many.

Fans quickly reacted with concern, with some warning him. He directly responded to these fans, although the responses have also since been removed from his communication platform.

  • “I’d rather get hit than delete it.”
  • “How would I know that?”
  • “I’ll delete it, but if you’re uncomfortable then leave. Don’t overinterpret it.”

He later apologized and clarified that he had not known the context behind the expression. The incident has since sparked discussion online about internet slang, context, and how public figures can unintentionally use terms without being aware of their broader associations.
