Popular Male Idol Sparks Debate After Appearing At Political Events

Singer from20 is going viral for publicly supporting his father during a local election campaign. The artist recently made headlines after appearing on live election coverage broadcasts and openly helping his father, Democratic Party candidate Kim Jung Nam, during the Gangneung mayoral race.

While many praised him for supporting his family, others reacted negatively due to the political nature of the campaign. According to local reports, Democratic Party candidate Kim Jung Nam successfully won the Gangneung mayoral election, ending decades of conservative dominance in the region. Photos from the victory celebration later showed from20 proudly standing alongside his father.

Prior to the election, the singer had posted a lengthy message explaining why he chose to get involved despite concerns about potential backlash.

He acknowledged that as both an artist and public figure, he had tried to avoid showing his personal political views out of concern that it could negatively affect others around him. However, he explained that he also wanted to fulfill his role as a son. He added that while some people would support him and others would criticize him, he believed voting was meaningful and worthy of respect. The singer also emphasized that his political activities were entirely personal and unrelated to his agency or any affiliated artists.

“Hello. I am writing this long post to share the news that I have dyed my hair black for the first time in a year and a half, and to inform you that I plan to stay in Gangneung for the time being for personal reasons. Although many of you may already know, my father is running as the Democratic Party of Korea’s candidate for Mayor of Gangneung in the upcoming June 3rd local elections. As Artist From Twenty and our company have gradually grown, I have been very careful not to let my personal colors show any side of me, fearing it might cause harm to others, and I feel the weight and responsibility of that responsibility deeply.  At the same time, I have a strong desire to fulfill my duty as the son of my beloved father […] I would also like to clearly state that I have no affiliation with our company or its affiliated artists. Now, let’s all make sure to vote.”

His story has since gone viral online, with many netizens praising him for openly supporting his father despite the backlash and criticism he faced throughout the campaign.
