On June 5, 2026 (KST), a production presentation for the K-Drama adaptation was held. Actors Kim Mu Yeol, Lee Sung Min, Jin Ki Joo, and P.O, as well as director Hong Jong Chan, attended the event.

Teach You A Lesson is based on the popular webtoon of the same name. However, during its serialization, the original work became embroiled in controversy over allegations of sexism and racism. The controversy was significant enough that its serialization was even discontinued in the United States.

Despite this, the story has since been adapted into a Netflix series. Addressing concerns surrounding the original work, director Hong Jong Chan said, “We fully understand the concerns about the original work. With a refined perspective, the production team worked very carefully and made great efforts to create a good story.”

The controversy surrounding the original webtoon also reportedly affected the casting process. The lead role of Na Hwa Jin, now played by Kim Mu Yeol, was first offered to actor Kim Nam Gil. However, after renewed attention was placed on the controversy surrounding the source material, Kim Nam Gil ultimately declined the role.

Kim Mu Yeol explained why he decided to take on the project, saying, “I remembered working with the director on our previous project ‘Juvenile Justice,’ where we handled difficult and sensitive issues carefully and with awareness.”

Because of that, I had trust in him and decided to work on this project as well. As expected, it was a very satisfying experience.

There are always various things that happen during the casting process whenever a project is being made. It’s something we all know among ourselves, but I think what’s different this time is that many people came to know about it.

He continued, “I hope viewers watch and judge how well I was able to sublimate that pressure into my acting. Ultimately, I believe actors are people who speak through their projects. I hope people watch this series and recognize my sincerity through the work.”
