Forced To Perform Half-Naked, Threats Of Adult Film Release— Girl Group Faces Calls For Disbandment Amid Mounting Controversies

The agency recently issued an apology.

An underground idol girl group is fast losing grace in the public eye over their resurfaced controversies.

Planck Stars, a controversial idol group from Japan, recently sparked massive outrage on social media after they were seen performing in skimpy swimsuits on an open stage amid sub-zero temperatures and heavy snowfall. The controversy grew so much that the agency had to issue a formal apology.

However, many saw it as an insincere and hurried move to simply bury the negative press. Some also brought up the group’s past controversies.

The concept of Planck Stars is “free-spirited delinquents,” and to play along those lines, the group has carried out some questionable antics, including stepping on a fan, hammering the ceiling of a venue, spitting watermelon seeds into a fan’s mouth, and forcing a fan to drink dishwashing liquid.

One of their most severe “pranks” happened in 2022, when they held a competition to see which members could sell the most tickets to a concert. The winner was supposed to get a bike, while the one selling the least amount of tickets would be forced to debut in an “AV.” The term “AV” is most frequently used to refer to “adult video,” and hence, people were under the impression that the person selling the least amount of tickets would be forced to debut as a pornstar. However, it turned out that the “AV” video they were talking about was an “animal video.”

Despite having to constantly change its lineup since its debut, the girl group continues to release new music and carry out questionable “pranks.” However, its latest performance appears to have pushed public criticism against Planck Stars to new heights. With many expressing fatigue over the never-ending scandals around this group, questions have arisen about how sustainable it is to pursue an entertainment career this way.
