K-Pop has fully taken over Twitter as more and more groups and fans use the platform to interact and share their love for the genre. Thanks to a video by The Visualized Trends, we can see just how viral these groups went in 2020! Here is a look at the 5 groups whose names appeared the most in Twitter’s trending topics throughout the year.
5. BLACKPINK
“BLACKPINK” and related tags trended 64 times in 2020! Their most popular hashtag was #blackpink_globalpresscon on June 26, 2020, where the group promoted their single “How You Like That.” The hashtag had almost 700k tweets!
4. NCT
NCT trended on Twitter 101 times last year! It was a big year for the group as they released their group project, NCT 2020: RESONANCE as well as unit albums. Their most popular trend was #4YearsWithNCTDREAM, in honor of NCT DREAM’s anniversary in August 2020, with almost 800k tweets!
3. EXO
EXO pulled ahead to the top 3 with 102 trending topics in 2020! The group’s members released multiple projects throughout the year, from Kai‘s solo debut to EXO-SC‘s 1st studio album. Their top trending hashtag was #exo on Oct 29, 2020 with almost 500k tweets!
2. GOT7
In the second spot is GOT7 who trended 105 times in 2020! Many of the hashtags throughout the year were from fans demanding better treatment for the group from their old label, JYP Entertainment.
