8 Korean Celebrities Who Are Almost Universally Hated By The Korean General Public

Some of them committed vile crimes.

Korean celebrities are all prone to making mistakes, but some of them go beyond and commit vile acts. The Korean general public already has a low tolerance when it comes to celebrities making mistakes, so a vile act can essentially end their careers. Here are a few celebrities who are practically universally hated by the Korean general public for their past actions.

1. Steve Yoo (Yoo Seung Jun)

Steve Yoo is still criticized by the Korean general public for evading his mandatory military service in the past. He gave up his Korean citizenship to acquire an American one right before he was supposed to enlist. This caused not only outrage among the general public, but it also forced Steve Yoo to leave South Korea. The South Korean government considered this to be an act of desertion, so he was forced to leave the country and was banned from entering. Over the years, he’s tried making apologies for his actions but has always been given the cold shoulder by the Korean general public.

2. Go Young Wook

Go Young Wook was arrested in 2013 for sexually harassing and assaulting three minors on many different occasions. He was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison due to his actions. After his release in 2015, he has remained relatively quiet and has been banned from all broadcast networks. All this caused the South Korean general public to be disgusted by him, and they hope that they never publically see him again.

3. MC Mong

MC Mong is another celebrity whose career got damaged due to his acts of trying to dodge his military service. In 2010, MC Mong was accused of purposefully pulling out his teeth. While MC Mong tried to explain that the teeth were pulled out due to poor care, the South Korean general public saw his statements as lies. MC Mong was later cleared of charges regarding intentionally pulling out his teeth to dodge his military service, but was found guilty of deliberately delaying his enlistment. The South Korean public still criticizes him for his actions, and he’s met with harsh criticism whenever he appears publicly.

4. Yang Hyun Suk

Yang Hyun Suk was once considered one of the top celebrities in South Korea, as he was once the head of YG Entertainment. He started to get a bad reputation by K-Pop fans when he would constantly lie about plans for his company’s groups, and how he would rarely update fans with any news. Over the past couple of years, Yang Hyun Suk has been accused of multiple crimes, such as habitual gambling overseas and illegal nightlife.

5. Jung Joon Young, Choi Jong Hoon, Yong Junhyung, and Lee Jonghyun

These celebrities are now despised by the Korean general public for their acts of illegal filming, sexual assault, and illegal distribution. In 2019, it was revealed that Jung Joon Young had been sexually assaulting women, illegally filming them, and distributing these videos in a group chat for his entertainment. All these were without the consent from the women, and Jung Joon Young was soon caught. He is currently serving his time of 2 years and 6 months.

Choi Jong Hoon was one of the people in Jung Joon Young’s group chat, and he too distributed illegal videos. Choi Jong Hoon was found guilty of sexual assault, illegal production, and distribution of pornographic videos. He is currently serving his time in prison.
