All In The Details: The Best Dressed Korean Celebrities At The "2023 Met Gala"

The 2023 Met Gala is upon us! With the theme “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” guests dressed in their best vintage-inspired outfits based on designs from Lagerfeld’s time at brands such as Chloé, Fendi, and CHANEL.

The following Korean celebrities were drop dead gorgeous in their interpretations of the theme. Check them out below!

1. BLACKPINK’s Jennie

First up, the most talked-about Korean celebrity of the night was undoubtedly BLACKPINK’s Jennie. She wore a retro CHANEL mini dress from their 1990 Fall/Winter collection.

What made her look so special was the fact that it was recreated by the brand just for her. More often than not, celebrities need to borrow the vintage clothing from them or rent from an archive.

Jennie’s Met Gala look was additionally meaningful as she incorporated her Korean heritage into it through her hairstyle. She wore a modern take on the traditional ko meori that was commonly seen during the Joseon period.

She was simply stunning while being aligned with the theme!

2. Sora

Model Choi Sora, famous for winning Korea’s Next Top Model Season 3, was another stunner at the event. Here, she represented the brand Thom Browne.

Known for their modern tailoring, she donned an avant-garde suit dress made with the tweed fabric that Karl Lagerfeld was known for. She oozed charisma and confidence on the Met Gala red carpet.

The highlight of Sora’s outfit was a floor-length cape that she draped over her shoulder.

Zooming into the cape, one would notice a tiny camellia flower sewn into the black fabric. This statement item has been associated with CHANEL since 1913, and Lagerfeld was known to have revived it in his designs for younger audiences.

3. Song Hye Kyo

Finally, Song Hye Kyo was breathtaking in a long pink dress from the brand Fendi. Embellished with layers of diamond and flower patterned lace, the skirt was an elegant piece that accentuated her lithe figure.
