Every year, Google puts out a “Year in Search” list, in which they show what was the most searched terms of the year. Recently, they have put out their “Year in Search 2020” and if you specially select South Korea’s searches, you can see what dramas Koreans were searching the most! Here are 10 of the amazing K-Dramas that were searched the most by the South Korean population.
10. Hospital Playlist (슬기로운 의사생활)
This drama depicts the stories five doctors that are long time friends who started their friendship in 1999 at the same medical school, and are now colleagues in the same hospital. It is the 9th highest rated K-Drama in cable-television history.
9. Tale of the Nine-Tailed (구미호뎐)
A mythical nine-tailed fox (gumiho), Lee Yeon (Lee Dong Wook), eradicates supernatural beings that threaten the mortal world. His real aim is to find the reincarnation of his lost first love. A television producer Nam Ji Ah (Jo Bo Ah) works on a show that features urban myths. In the past, her parents were involved in a car accident and disappeared, and she suspects that Lee Yeon might be connected.
8. Extracurricular (인간수업)
This show is centered around three high school students who start to commit crimes to earn money. Oh Ji Soo (Kim Dong Hee) goes from a model student to a criminal. School bully Seo Min Hee (Jung Da Bin) gets caught up in Ji Soo’s crime. Bae Gyu Ri (Park Joo Hyun) is Ji Soo’s partner in crime.
7. Kingdom Season 2 (킹덤 시즌 2)
After the amazing success of the first season, season 2 of this drama was released this year. Crown Prince Lee Chang (Joo Ji Hoon) faces waves of the undead as they become active due to the start of the winter season and threaten to reach the capital.
6. New Journey to the West: Season 8 (신서유기 8)
The one and only non-drama on this list is this extremely popular game show. In Season 8, members from Season 7 returned and the theme was the traditional Korean fairytale, Heungbu and Nolbu. Kang Ho Dong plays Heungbu‘s son; Lee Soo Geun plays the gourd; Eun Ji Won plays the swallow; Kyuhyun plays Nolbu’s wife; Mino plays Heungbu, and P.O. plays Nolbu. They travel around and play various games.
5. Dr. Romantic 2 (낭만닥터 김사부 2)
Three years after the first season, Kim Sa Bu (Han Seok Kyu) comes to Geosan University Hospital to recruit a general surgeon. He finds Seo Woo Jin (Ahn Hyo Seop), a doctor who is ostracized by his fellow doctors, and offers him the job. In the meantime, Cha Eun Jae (Lee Sung Kyung) is suspended after making another mistake in the operation room and has no other choice but to go to Doldam Hospital.
4. Hot Stove League (스토브리그)
The Dreams are a professional baseball team that have placed last in the league for the past four seasons. When their manager steps down, the team hires Baek Seung Soo (Nam Goong Min), who has managed several winning sports teams, but never a baseball team. With shrinking budgets, fighting between the coaching staff, and a team deeply set in their ways, He uses his outsider’s insight and the help of operations manager Se Young (Park Eun Bin) to lead the Dreams to victory. This drama won “Best Drama” at the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards.
3. The World Of The Married (부부의 세계)
This drama is actually a Korean remake of the BBC One series, Doctor Foster. In this show, everything seems perfect in the life of successful family doctor and associate director, Ji Sun Woo (Kim Hee Ae). She lives in Gosan with her husband, Lee Tae Oh (Park Hae Joon), and their teenage son, Joon Young (Jeon Jin Seo). However, when she discovers that her husband is having an affair and even their mutual friends are helping him conceal it, the happy family life shatters, and she sets off seeking revenge. It is the highest rated drama in the history of Korean cable television.
2. Crash Landing On You (사랑의 불시착)
This hit drama tells the story of a South Korean heiress and a North Korean elite army officer. One day, while paragliding, Yoon Se Ri (Son Ye Jin) has crashes into North Korea because of a harsh storm. There she meets Ri Jung Hyuk (Hyun Bin), who agrees to help her return to South Korea. Over time, they fall in love. This is the highest rated tvN drama and the 3rd highest rated K-drama in cable-television history.
1. Itaewon Class (이태원 클라쓰)
Park Sae Ro Yi (Park Seo Joon)’s life has been turned upside down after he gets expelled from school for punching a bully, not to mention, his father is killed in an accident. He opens a pub named “DanBam” in Itaewon to honor his father and strives towards success and a greater future. This drama has the 3rd highest rating on JTBC and is the 7th highest rated K-Drama from cable television.
