During a recent interview with Sports Seoul, the actor stated that he was planning to take a long break after finishing up his current commitments.

I’m still working without resting but I plan to take quite a long break after finishing what I’ve already taken on.

The actor continued, explaining the reason behind his decision. Son said that previously, he had the goal of working in as many projects as possible. But at this stage of his career, when he had achieved that goal, he felt that it was time to explore more meaningful ways of expression.

He added, confessing, “I don’t want it anymore. Creating a large number of works requires an incredible amount of time and effort. I thought it was time to bring some change by trying to act in a different way.”

Despite delivering such exemplary pieces of work, Son revealed that he had no ambition for being the “one-top” actor. Looking back at his career, Son recalled that he had never been a part of a project where he was the number one lead, but he never craved to be in that position either. Rather, the actor believes his strength lies in contributing to an ensemble cast where he can share synergy with fellow actors.

While Son might be taking a break from acting soon, he shared that he was working on screenplays as well. “I do have a dream,” he added, “I want to take on challenges I haven’t tried before,” explaining his plans for the hiatus.
