AKMU’s Suhyun Explains Reasoning Behind The Unique Concept Of Her Solo Debut Track “Alien”
Lee Suhyun of AKMU just released her solo debut track, “Alien” 6 years after her initial debut as a duo with her brother, Chanhyuk.
And in an interview with News1, Suhyun explained how she got Chanhyuk to write the song for her solo debut and what she wanted to stress the most in the song.
I trusted my brother, who knows exactly what kind of song suits my voice. I asked him to write a song that would have mass appeal but also suits my voice at the same time, and as a result, he gave me a song I was happy with.

But she acknowledged that the concept was a little unique, which she was slightly worried about.
It’s a completely different image from what we’ve shown before, and it’s quite unique. So I thought a lot about how the public would react. But we pushed forward with it because we were that confident.
— Suhyun
Suhyun revealed that the unique concept was actually a huge challenge for her, but that was the point.
I wanted to contrast the image and music people think of when they think about AKMU. There’s also a choreography from beginning to end of the song, and that was a huge challenge for me as well.

In addition to the unique concept, Suhyun made a strong impression on fans with her new mint hair color and fun eye colors.
We made new visual attempts. I dyed my hair mint, and I wore different colors of contact lenses for the MV.

Aside from the production of the song itself, everything was up to Suhyun this time, and she shared that she absolutely loved it.
It was a fun experience. This time, my brother took responsibility for the song and left everything else up to me. So there were many decisions I had to make for my solo debut, but that’s what made it so much more rewarding.
