Popular Show Gets Completely Called Off Amid Cast Boycott And Other Drama
The musical Eyes of Dawn, which recently drew attention after actor Baek Sung Hyun issued an apology regarding a same-day performance cancellation, has ultimately ended its run early due to a boycott by some of its cast members.

According to Xportsnews on March 22, 2026 (KST), lead actors Baek Sung Hyun and Park Jung Ah—who had joined as additional cast members—arrived at the theater for that day’s performance. However, the show could not go on due to a boycott by other actors.
An insider shared that Baek Sung Hyun, who had been more enthusiastic than anyone about the production, was so distressed by the news of the show getting called off that he even skipped meals.

The production company of Eyes of Dawn announced via its official account, “We did our utmost to continue the performances until the very end, but due to ongoing difficulties beyond expectations, we have no choice but to conclude the run early for managerial reasons, with the March 19 performance as the final show.” The company also stated that all ticket purchases will be fully refunded through the respective ticketing platforms.
We take seriously the difficulties this decision has caused for the actors, staff, and all those involved. We will approach all related matters with sincerity and a sense of responsibility until the very end.

This early closure has intensified controversy following a prior incident in which a performance was abruptly canceled on the day of the show. On March 8, a performance was suddenly canceled on-site due to issues on the production company’s end, without prior notice, leaving attendees confused.
In particular, the performance had been scheduled for firefighters and their families, personally invited by Baek Sung Hyun, making the situation even more unfortunate. In response, Baek Sung Hyun, who had joined the extended run as an additional cast member, personally apologized, while the production company, Next Sketch, acknowledged responsibility and promised to resume performances. The situation initially seemed resolved when the firefighters who had been turned away earlier were later able to attend a performance.
However, according to those in the performing arts industry, the current situation reportedly stems from escalating conflicts over payment, which led some actors to boycott the production.

The musical Eyes of Dawn is based on the 1991 K-Drama of the same name, which recorded a peak viewership rating of 58.4% at the time. The musical’s 2019 premiere was recognized for its quality, earning a nomination for “Best Musical” at the Korea Musical Awards.
