On October 1, the McDonald’s Japan X account shared a photo with the message “coming soon.” The image featured a person covered by leaves, but some facial features were left exposed.

Fans quickly concluded that the image was of Ni-Ki, based on the individual’s piercings and chin mole, among other features.

Almost immediately, the announcement sparked a significant backlash as fans expressed their disappointment and frustration with BELIFT LAB.

The core of the controversy stems from McDonald’s reported involvement in the ongoing genocide in Palestine. Boycotts of the brand started after news revealed that a McDonald’s franchise owner in Israel declared that the restaurants would be providing free meals to Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers and Israeli hospitals.

Newsweek claimed that the Israeli franchise has dedicated five stores to this initiative, donating over 100,000 meals.

This has reinforced earlier protests against HYBE, with fans using the #HYBEDivestFromZionism hashtag to share their complaints with the company.

This alleged upcoming collaboration has also added to the grievances fans have already had with ENHYPEN’s company, including their upcoming schedule.  Fans have also accused BELIFT Lab of “sabotaging” the group/Ni-Ki with the collaboration.
