Beloved K-Drama Actress Receives Scathing Backlash In China Over Controversial Photos

Actress Ryu Hye Young has landed herself in hot water with some of her recent Instagram posts.

Ryu recently visited Shanghai, China, and posted some of the candid photos taken during the trip on her social media platform. Out of those many photos, two specific snapshots ended up inviting the wrath of Chinese netizens.

One of those pictures showed a deliver worker asleep on his motorbike on the side of the street. The other one featured a photo of street littering with plastic bottles discarded in a planter.

Though none of the posts included any commentary from the actress, the fact that she chose to post those two specific pictures was considered by many Chinese netizens a dig at Shanghai’s local conditions. Soon enough, the photos caused a massive uproar across Chinese online communities, with many questioning her intentions and others accusing her of being insensitive and disrespectful.

As the backlash grew, Ryu deleted the entire post from her Instagram feed. However, the controversy rages on. Many netizens felt that the damage could not be undone unless she made an official statement of apology.
