Lee Guk Joo recently  revealed that she decided to move to Tokyo, Japan. She went from a huge apartment to a tiny one-room studio. Her previous life was rather luxurious, given her popularity. She spent hundreds per day on food, and lived in a large apartment.

Lee Guk Joo uploaded a vlog on her YouTube channel where she was seen unpacking and organizing things in her new Tokyo home.

She explained that the hosue was smaller than expected, but it was clean and had room for storage. She also loved the inclusion of a bathtub. Most apartments in Korea do not have a bathtub. She has room for a queen-sized bed in the bedroom, but nothing else.

She then explained why she chose to move to Japan. She was determined to master the Japanese language in order to help her take on new challenges. She also admitted that since she was unable to work in Japan, she was willing to live more frugally than she is used to in Korea.

“I’m 40 now, and it’s been 20 years since I debuted. For the past 4 to 5 years, I was just going with the flow, doing whatever came my way. But now, I want a new challenge. It’s been a while since I felt any excitement, and I started thinking about how much I want to learn a new language. I kinda thought, ‘If I can speak Japanese, maybe I can try something new.’ Instead of just waiting for work to come to me, I decided to take this time—when I don’t have much going on—to actually do something. I came here with the mindset of living frugally and going through some struggles again, like when I was just starting out. Even if I fail, it won’t be a failure that ruins my life—it’ll be a valuable experience. I don’t think it’s possible for things not to work out with this mindset. I believe it’s bound to work out. I don’t know when that moment will come, but I’m going to try,” showing her determination and passion.
