Recently, an official from a franchise company took to social media and shared a part of a proposal they received from an agent regarding a PPL deal. The document revealed that the PPL was for ZIP Daesung, with filming scheduled for March 17 and upload on April 24. The planned guests were Donhae and Eunhyun of Super Junior. The channel’s average views were stated to be over 1.1 million, and the proposed advertising fee was ₩55.0 million KRW (about $38,200 USD).

The franchise official expressed their uncertainty about going forward with the offer. They emphasized that the matter was not confidential, adding, “I didn’t even request a quote. These production company writers or PDs send offer emails like spam every week.”

Netizens were astonished by the amount and felt that the PPL fee was “too expensive.” Some questioned whether it was reasonable to spend millions of won on a single YouTube video. However, industry insiders responded that the amount was not unusual. In fact, some celebrity-run channels with fewer than 1 million subscribers reportedly have a minimum PPL cost of ₩30.0 million KRW (about $20,800 USD). Channels with guaranteed 1 million views charging over ₩50.0 million KRW (about $34,700 USD) are typical.

However, in the case of ZIP Daesung, only one of eight videos uploaded in the past month has surpassed 1 million views, raising questions about the PPL fee.

  • “If you want to use their name or image, you have to pay extra—suddenly it becomes 100 million won.”
  • “Even obscure YouTubers easily get 30 million won.”
  • “The more professional the content, the higher the rate lol. And while they do have followers, what matters even more is the number of views.”
  • “I’ve done a lot of YouTube PPLs, and with the rates included, we’ve sold them a lot. Those PPLs already cost tens of millions or even hundreds of millions…and if the content is reused, you have to pay an extra several million per month lol.”
  • “Oh, I’m jealous… lol.”
