Recently, the pair made a surprise appearance at the premiere of Dream. Dream is an upcoming sports comedy-drama about a soccer player who must coach a team made up of homeless players who will compete in the Homeless World Cup. The film stars IU and V’s close friend Park Seo Joon.

Despite being a powerhouse on stage, Jungkook is a naturally shy person who still gets nervous in front of a crowd.

…even though I’m not nervous at all when I sing in front of tens of thousands of people, if I have to sing or talk in front of a small group, I get super nervous. I never feel that way on stage, but maybe I have a hard time doing things that are a little bit awkward for me.

Although he has come a long way since his trainee days, Jungkook still looks to the social butterflies in his life for support. One of them is V. At the premiere, V encouraged Jungkook to speak, joked with him on stage, and reached out for his hand as they made their entrance.

Their sweet dynamic brought back memories from BTS’s early days. In Jungkook’s “My Biography” interview for Volume 8 of Japan’s FC magazine, he credited V with helping him to come out of his shell.

I was really shy during my trainee days and lacked sociability. But it got better after V joined the company. V and I have similar personalities and it’s thanks to him that I came out of my shell. The more I became close to V the more I liked him.

Later, in an episode of BTS’s 2020 reality show, In the SOOP, Jungkook opened up about how he and V have changed since then. During their rookie days, V was outgoing and extroverted, but according to Jungkook, he became more reserved, and their dynamic shifted.

[V] was the easiest person to talk to before, but as we started spending time on our own, there was a side of things that started to feel a bit awkward with V. He used to joke around all the time, but he’s more reserved now.

When he approached me first, we sorted a lot of that out, and I’ve also thought about how I’ve had heart-to-heart talks with everyone else but V. I’m glad that he planned this time together.

“After that,” Jungkook said. “although things are exactly the way they were when we were younger, it still felt like some things have gone back to the way they used to be.”
