BTS Members Secure Important Legal Win
BTS members V and Jungkook have partially won a significant lawsuit.

On January 23, an appeals court ruled in favor of the two BTS members and ordered the defendant, Park, who operated the infamous YouTube channel, Sojang, to pay ₩86.0 million KRW (about $59,500 USD) in damages.

The Seoul Western District Court Appeals Division partially overturned the first-instance ruling in the damages suit filed by V and Jungkook, and their agency, BIGHIT MUSIC, against Park for posting defamatory videos about the idol. In February last year, the court had ruled that Park should pay ₩51.0 million KRW (about $35,300 USD) in damages to BIGHIT, ₩10.0 million KRW (about $6,910 USD) to V, and ₩15.0 million KRW (about $10,400 USD) to Jungkook, resulting in a partial victory of the plaintiffs, who initially sought ₩90.0 million KRW (about $62,200 USD) in damages.

The appeals court has now ordered Park to pay an additional ₩5.00 million KRW (about $3,460 USD) to each of the BTS members, bringing the total amount payable to ₩86.0 million KRW (about $59,500 USD).
Sojang was previously sentenced to two years in prison with three years’ probation for defaming multiple celebrities. The court also ordered her to pay a fine of ₩210 million KRW (about $146,000 USD) and complete 120 hours of community service.
