Too Young? Aged-Up Actor Earns Mixed Reactions For His New K-Drama Role

Some fans are having trouble suspending their disbelief for My Dearest Nemesis, a K-Drama that will air on February 17. New teaser photos have cast doubts about the male lead, played by actor Choi Hyun Wook.

My Dearest Nemesis is about the leader of a department store’s planning team (played by Moon Ga Young) who discovers that her new boss (Choi Hyun Wook) is her first love. The two met while playing an online game 16 years ago. The K-Drama is based on a Naver webtoon by Yang Hye Jin.
In the webtoon, Moon Ga Young’s character began playing games with Choi Hyun Wook’s character when she was a third-year high school student. When she met him in person after her college entrance exams in 2005, he turned out to be different than she imagined. She was 19 years old (born in 1986) when they met, and he was 16 (born in 1989), meaning they have a three-year age gap and would be in their early thirties 16 years later.
Moon Ga Young is 28 years old, while Choi Hyun Wook just turned 23 years old on January 30, making him 22 years old at the time of filming. If the K-Drama is staying true to the webtoon, that means Choi Hyun Wook is a decade younger than his character.
After seeing “aged-up” Choi in the show’s new teaser photos, some fans have expressed their doubts about his styling and whether or not he’ll be able to pull off his character.

Some viewers also pointed out how much younger this ’02 liner looks (and is) than his ’96 liner co-star, who is six years older than him in real life.
