According to the investigation, Lee Kyung Kyu drove away from an indoor golf practice in Gangnam on June 8, 2025 (KST) around 2:05 PM in a foreign vehicle that does not belong to him. The vehicle’s actual owner filed a car theft report—then the police determined that it was the parking attendant who handed Lee Kyung Kyu the wrong set of keys.

The police questioned the comedian when he returned with the vehicle. At that point, a breathalyzer test was done and came back negative, but a rapid drug test reportedly came back positive. As the investigation is ongoing, the police have declined to comment further.

Lee Kyung Kyu is said to have strongly denied drug abuse, claiming he had only taken medication prescribed by a doctor. Still, under current South Korean traffic law, it is illegal to drive under the influence of drugs that impairs the ability to operate a vehicle safely.
