Late Barbie Hsu’s Family Lashes Out At Alleged “Legal Battle” With DJ Koo Over $30M+ Inheritance

Some reports claimed that Barbie Hsu’s mother had already hired a lawyer.

Amid reports of an inheritance dispute involving DJ Koo, also known as CLON‘s Koo Jun Yup and Barbie Hsu‘s bereaved husband, the family of his late wife, Barbie Hsu, has lashed out in anger and strongly pushed back against the claims.

On February 10, 2026 (local time), some Taiwanese media outlets reported that DJ Koo was preparing for a legal dispute with his mother-in-law, Huang Chunmei, over the late Barbie Hsu’s estate, suggesting that—contrary to the warm appearance they showed at a memorial statue unveiling held for the first anniversary of her passing—their relationship was actually strained. Reports even claimed that Barbie Hsu’s mother had already hired a lawyer.

In response, Barbie Hsu’s mother personally denied the rumors. She said, “I despise lawsuits. They only waste people’s time and money.”

I now call DJ Koo my son. He loved my daughter deeply and respects me. I love him as well.

Barbie Hsu’s younger sister, actress Dee Hsu, also made a direct appeal regarding the rumors fueling family discord. She emphasized, “Anyone creating these rumors has malicious intentions and impure motives.”

My brother-in-law gave my sister pure love and true happiness. Our family is grateful to him. He is our family. We will protect him, not harm him.

Barbie Hsu first dated DJ Koo in 1998, but the two later parted ways. They reunited more than 20 years later and married in 2022. She tragically passed away last February from acute pneumonia while on a family trip to Japan.

Local media have reported that Barbie Hsu left behind an estate worth at least ₩46.0 billion KRW (about $31.6 million USD). Under Taiwanese law, her two minor children and her husband, DJ Koo, would each inherit one-third of the estate.

Regarding the spread of false news about the inheritance, DJ Koo previously spoke out, saying, “Right now, I am going through a time of indescribable grief and pain that feels like my insides are being torn apart. I don’t have the strength to speak, nor do I want to,” adding, “Everything she left behind is the result of Hee-won shedding blood and sweat to protect the family she loved in her lifetime, so I intend to transfer all rights concerning my share to my mother-in-law.”

As of February 8, 2026, DJ Koo was spotted at Barbie Hsu’s gravesite, commemorating what would have been their fourth wedding anniversary.
