Yet, the twist is that they’re not a real girl group.

Metaverse Entertainment announced the upcoming debut of their first K-Pop girl group, MAVE:, and it was recently revealed that MAVE: is entirely comprised of AI members. The group is a collaboration between Kakao, a South Korean internet company, and Netmarble, which is a South Korean mobile game developer.

As expected, the news had mixed reactions from netizens and the fact that many saw a huge resemblance with aespa’s Karina raised even more concerns.

Netizens couldn’t believe how closely the members resembled Karina, assuming that they used her features when creating the members. While it could be seen as a form of flattery, Karina gains attention as her visuals are so unique.

The members of MAVE: look like they’ve definitely been inspired by aespa with their sleek and futuristic concept. Looking at the members alongside aespa’s AI counterparts, it is impossible not to see the huge similarities.

Of course, the idea of AI groups and idols is not new, and there have always been influences from other idols.

Boy group SUPERKIND shocked fans after having an AI member called Saejin amongst the normal members. According to fans, he seemed to have features of THE BOYZ‘s Juyeon, ASTRO‘s Cha Eunwoo, NCT‘s Jaehyun, and more.
