Just a couple days ago, SBS was heavily criticized after it was revealed that they edited out several gay kiss scenes from the movie. The broadcasting network was met with severe backlash, to which they released an official statement saying, “It was edited after serious and careful consideration that it was a Lunar New Year special film broadcast by a public broadcast station to viewers 15+ in the evening. There were no special intentions.”

In light of the controversy, a gay couple has stepped forward with a “kiss challenge” to embrace all types of kisses in the world. With the hashtags, #every_kiss_is_equal and #all_kisses_are_equal, the couple explains the rules of the challenge for all their subscribers and why they decided to create it. They start the video with a quick introduction of themselves.

South Korea has unfortunately been consistent with their conservative views on different topics. This includes homosexuality and all things related to the LGBTQ+ community. The SBS controversy may have been a small, but mighty wakeup call to the nation and it seems that the MANGO Couple is doing what they can to destigmatize the LGBTQ+ community.
