His promotion tactic was definitely unique.

Recently, the rapper appeared in a video promoting an artificial intelligence company, WRTN AI. However, in contrast to the usual flashy and high-budget commercials featuring a top-tier artist like G-Dragon, this advertisement stood out because of how laid-back it appeared. The idol appeared to have taken a self-video on his phone, talking about WRTN in a non-scripted, spontaneous manner.

The ad, however, has attracted heavily divided reactions from netizens. On the one hand, fans argued that it was a great marketing strategy to put out such a raw-looking video as an ad. On the other hand, many felt that it was not a very pleasant way of promoting a product.

  • “I hate this ad. Thanks to it, I’ll never use that [product] for the rest of my life. I’d rather see ads like ‘How would you raise this child?’ or something about concubines/queens — I prefer those. That’s how much I hate it. F***.”
  • “I thought the ad was fresh and nice. You’re the one who’s more bizarre for leaving a hate comment.”
  • “What’s so bizarre about it? It was clearly intentional — you just don’t get the ad. Even the advertisers probably didn’t expect ‘WRTN’ to become this memorable to the public from just one G-Dragon ad.”
  • “The fact is, thanks to G-Dragon, the ad had an insane impact. 😂 Before the ad, the app wasn’t even in the top 100 on the App Store — but right after it aired, it shot up to 13th place. If that’s not the power of a GD ad, then what is? And sure, people can have different tastes, but calling a simple video of a person talking ‘bizarre’ and spamming hate comments — now that’s what’s truly bizarre, lol.”
  • “Being so damn proud about posting hate comments — is that a brainpower issue or what?”
