“Gee” created waves back then, and Taeyeon reflects back on their song all these years later!

Girls’ Generation‘s 2009 song “Gee” is their iconic breakthrough hit, and while it’s loved by many, Taeyeon has been very clear about how much she’s disliked “Gee” all these years!

Taeyeon recently shot a pictorial with Vogue Korea where she rocked some amazing outfits, and sat down for an interview with them as well!

She talked about her daily life as well as her life as a celebrity, and briefly touched upon the topic of “Gee”, and why she hated it back then!

[I had my doubts about] our “Gee” era. Back then, I wanted to do something more charismatic and fierce. I don’t know, I guess I wanted to rebel… so I would say that “Gee” sounds cringey.

I’ve even mentioned that in different interviews too. I’m pretty sure there are articles on how ‘Taeyeon doesn’t like the song “Gee”.’

She then said how she acknowledges that “Gee” was probably the best song they could have released at the time, as it suited them perfectly back then!

Now that I think about it, I feel like the concept had been perfect for our age at the time. We were so young, so fresh, and bubbly cute… And it was a whole look, but I didn’t see it that way at the time.

It’s great to see that after all these years, Taeyeon’s finally made her peace with their iconic song!

She recently came back with the single “Weekend”.
