Beloved Idol-Turned-Actress Revealed To Have Jumped Into Han River
In an interview with News1, director Lee Sang Geun—behind Girls’ Generation member YoonA‘s new K-Movie, Pretty Crazy—revealed what a “truly self-sacrificing performance” the idol-turned-actress put on for her role of “Seon Ji,” a woman who turns into the devil every night.
The director noted that he decided to work with YoonA again after they debuted together as lead actress and director with the award-winning Exit in 2019 because he “had such great memories working with her.”
Because I had such great memories working with YoonA before, I went into the rewrites with her in mind from the very beginning. In the film, YoonA essentially plays two roles: Seon Ji by day and Seon Ji by night. And she delivers a truly self-sacrificing performance. Her character’s obsession with chiffon cake leads to some intense mukbang scenes, and she shocks the audience with her mischievous side by diving into the Han River.

And, to Lee Sang Geun’s surprise, YoonA went above and beyond in Pretty Crazy, too. According to the director, the most striking display of YoonA’s dedication to the movie and her role was proven with the Han River dive scene.
Lee Sang Geun praised YoonA’s passion and courage for turning down a stunt double and shooting the jump herself!
If you told me to jump in, I don’t think I could do it. I think YoonA was a little worried, too, of course. She knew the depth of the water going in, but you just never know what might happen with the river, so it’s scary. Still, she insisted on doing it herself.
There were two divers hiding underwater during the scene. Once she jumped in, she would have to get out, dry her hair, and change clothes, etc. So there was only one shot at it. I was sitting far away in a boat in front of the camera, praying it would be captured well. We were both very nervous going at it. But because we had only one chance, we were laser focused, and it worked. It made me think, when we’re desperate, we can do the impossible.

Pretty Crazy premiered on August 13, 2025 (KST). While the first round of viewer opinions are split, YoonA’s acting remains highly praised across the reviews.
