GOT7’s Comeback Was Originally Going To Be Even Sooner, According To Youngjae

Originally, their new EP was to have been released by now.

GOT7‘s Youngjae revealed recently that the group’s upcoming self-titled EP originally was supposed to be out by now.

On May 9, Youngjae acted as DJ for the MBC FM4U campaign Wait a Minute. However, he is the regular host of the radio program Best Friend (also known as Close Friend).

Ahgase (also known as iGOT7) also celebrated their birthday on May 9. The term meaning “baby bird” is the official name of GOT7’s fandom and was originally revealed to be I GOT7 in a video posted on the official JYP Entertainment YouTube channel on May 9, 2014.

7 is a lucky number, and ‘I GOT7′ means that fans have ‘gotten’ GOT7. So put that together and you get I GOT7, meaning that not only will fans get each members love, but also their luck.

On May 22, 2014 Jackson posted on GOT7’s Official Daum Fancafe, and referred to the fans as ‘아가새’. This was the first time 아가새, or Ahgase, was used as a nickname for I GOT7.

아가새 (Ahgase) is a shortened form of 아이 갓세븐 (I GOT7), but also has the additional meaning of ‘baby bird’ in Korean. From this the baby bird became I GOT7’s symbol, and the inspiration for GOT7’s official light stick.

So, during DJ Youngjae’s radio show, he had to give a shoutout to Ahgase as it was May 9!

Today is May 9, right? Yes. It’s your birthday today. Thank you so much, Ahgases.

— Youngjae

Youngjae congratulated Ahgases on another year and thanked them. Yet, he also revealed major news. Originally, GOT7 had hoped to release their new self-titled EP in time for Ahgase’s birthday.

To tell you the truth, we meant to release the album today.

— Youngjae

The members tried to make it happen, but due to scheduling, it was too difficult as they wanted to have a proper full comeback. So, it ultimately was pushed to May 23.

But, even though we tried really hard to make that happen, it didn’t work out. So… unfortunately, it has been pushed to May 23. But regardless, please give it a listen and a lot of love when it drops.

— Youngjae

Recently, GOT7 also announced 2022 FANCON HOMECOMING with I GOT 7. It will be held at South Korea Olympic Handball Gymnasium in Seoul on Saturday, May 21, at 6 PM (KST) and Sunday, May 22, at 4 PM (KST).

Other than that, Youngjae refused to release any spoilers. GOT7 already have a designated member to do that!
