HYBE Idols From Different Group Voice Frustration Over AI Usage

The two idols, from two different groups, agreed on the points.

Generative AI, as controversial as it might be, has started to become a mainstream aspect of K-Pop. Not just fan-generated content, but even major K-Pop labels are growingly incorporating AI-generated “art” into their artists’ content, and HYBE is no exception to it.

However, it appears that the company’s perspective on generative AI might not be fully aligned with its artists, or at least some of them.

Recently, TXT member Beomgyu and ENHYPEN’s Heeseung hosted a live broadcast together in person, much to the surprise of fans. During this broadcast, Beomgyu brought up the topic of AI-generated art, expressing his discomfort with it.

When Beomgyu started speaking on the topic, Heeseung encouraged him, showing his obvious agreement. The TXT member continued, pointing out that he recognized all the benefits of AI but felt uneasy about how AI-generated art has become indistinguishable from human-made art. Heeseung agreed again, saying he often gets confused looking at online content.

Beomgyu then advocated for AI-made art to be clearly labelled as such, so that people like him, who are not professionals in AI usage, would not get fooled.

Beomgyu’s remarks have deeply resonated with fans, who called out fellow fans for using AI to generate fan content, when artists have constantly voiced their disapproval of it.

This is not the first time a HYBE idol has spoken against AI usage in art. Artists like Yeonjun and BTS’s Jungkook have also clearly expressed their stance regarding this matter.
