The news created quite a buzz, especially since it was reported that Jennie paid for the property in full cash. However, soon social media got abuzz with claims that the building the idol purchased was the Iraqi Embassy. Since the sending state often owns foreign embassy buildings, fans thought Jennie had purchased Iraq’s state-owned property.

The ministry explained that Iraq did not own any embassy building or residential property in Korea. The embassy in Seoul operates from leased premises, implying that the property was privately owned.

So, while it is true that the building Jennie bought was formerly leased by the government of Iraq for its embassy, she didn’t actually buy property belonging to a foreign government.
