A Japanese Porn Star Guests On “Turkids On The Block,” Sparking Intense Debate Among Korean Viewers

Was it acceptable for Ken Shimizu to appear in the season finale, available for “viewers of all ages”?

“Turkids On The Block,” a popular series led by comedian Lee Yong Jin on YouTube‘s STUDIO WAFFLE channel, posted its “season finale” on December 9 and it seems the series decided to go out with a bang.

The finale featured guest Ken Shimizu, also known as Shimiken: A Japanese porn star known to have had sex with over 10,000 women in over 10,000 adult videos.

The episode covered Shimizu’s basics, like how he decided to debut, how much he makes, how long it takes to make a single video, and more.

While, for the most part, the episode remained on the PG-15 side of things (minus some NSFW moments and R-rated comments that were beeped out), viewers—including STUDIO WAFFLE subscribers—grew divided over the guest.

The episode itself received a lot of positive feedback in the comments section. Considering the lighthearted nature of the episode and the good-humored porn star accepting to get featured in the series in the first place, viewers favorable toward the season finale defended “Turkids On The Block.”

  • “I’ve never seen Shimiken talk before. He’s witty! Haha. And the co-host Tanaka is hilarious, too. These people know how to entertain.”
  • “Oh, come on! We can’t resist this combination. Man, this episode was the funniest one by far.”
  • “Whoa, Tanaka and Shimiken on the same show? I’m honored. What a time to be alive!”
  • “Ack, I love this! The hosts and the guest are vibing. LOL. There isn’t a single second in this episode that isn’t funny. Too bad it’s so short, I want more!”
  • “[Shimiken] is honestly kind of witty. Haha. I don’t really know much about Shimiken but he definitely knows how to read a room.”
  • “WTF? Shimiken-san?! Turkids On The Block must have mad connections to bring in such a guest. LOL. Shimiken is such an entertainer. I loved this episode, it was hilarious. Such a wonderful combination of the hosts and the guest!”
  • “A season finale featuring Shimiken, though? This episode is going to go down in history.”

Some pointed out the fact that “Turkids On The Block” is a YouTube series and, therefore, more open to inviting guests from all industries—including the adult entertainment one.

On the other hand, more conservative netizens shared concern over the fact that the episode is available to “viewers of all ages,” including children. Some subscribers decided to drop their subscriptions due to the episode and the channel “crossing the line.”

  • “This crosses the f*cking line, though…”
  • “Even the episode thumbnail is making me want to vomit.”
  • “Doesn’t know when to stop, huh?”
  • “I got grossed out when the video popped up as a suggestion. Channel blocked.”
  • “It’s all about moderation. This definitely crosses a lot of lines.”
  • “A porn star to guest on a YouTube channel with 1.4 million subscribers that doesn’t have an age limit? LMAO. Wow.”
  • “At the very least… The episode could have come with an age restriction, I think.”
  • “This isn’t age appropriate. They use terms like ‘jizzing’ and stuff. How is this acceptable?”
  • “I feel bad for kids these days because they get exposed to anything and everything all the time. There is nothing being filtered for them.”
  • “I saw this thumbnail show up on my feed and blocked the channel.”
  • “Reporting this video.”
  • “Turkids really crossed the line with this one.”
  • “Hate it.”
  • “They f*cked up.”
  • “I don’t even understand why [Shimiken] is so popular.”
  • “Even the thumbnail is repulsive.”
  • “I knew they’d f*ck up at one point. And look where we are.”
  • “Lee Yong Jin keeps treading on really thin ice.”

Comedian Kim Kyung Wook, who appeared as his “character” Tanaka to co-host the episode, also faced some criticism.

In fact, I don’t even know why people accept the character Tanaka. Like… we realize that he’s based off the Japanese male escorts. Right? And we’re okay with our children watching this Tanaka character go around glorifying prostitution. Right? I stopped watching ‘Turkids On The Block’ when Tanaka first appeared in an episode as a guest. So I’m not surprised that the channel decided to bring on a porn star as a season finale guest. Not even disappointed. This is where we stand. YouTube is apparently a safe haven for all kinds of nonsense.

“Turkids On The Block” has not responded to the heated online debate. The episode remains posted as of December 11.

This is not the first time “Turkids On The Block” faced criticism. In the past, Lee Yong Jin and the channel were under fire for misrepresenting Turkish culture.

That being said, “Turkids On The Block” fans are left wondering if the series will be able to return with a second season despite the backlash.
