Former Girls’ Generation Member Jessica’s Deleted Part In Iconic Song Goes Viral
Have you heard the “original” before?
Girls’ Generation‘s 2009 “Genie” is, undeniably, one of the group’s most popular—but how the fans have come to know the song is not how the “original” sounded.
In a viral theqoo post, a YouTube video capturing former member Jessica‘s “ad-lib” noted that the part got deleted before the official release.

The deleted part features Jessica showing off her vocals during the iconic chorus:
Reacting to the video, Korean fans agreed that—while Jessica’s voice is truly one-of-a-kind—the ad-lib was right to be deleted.

- “Sounds cheesy.”
- “Much better without it. Also, what were these old lyrics?”
- “Huh, am I the only one who likes it? Maybe because it sounds new.”
- “It’s better without her ad-lib.”
- “I mean, I like it but that’s because I like Jessica’s vocals.”
- “Jessica’s voice was nice…”
- “I used to listen to this version all the time… Nostalgia!”
- “I like it.”
- “No, this sucks.”
- “She’s good and all, but it’s cleaner without the ad-lib.”
