KATSEYE’s Interview Sparks Heated Reactions Over Alleged Ableism
A recent KATSEYE interview clip has sparked heated discourse about ableism, specifically regarding Megan.

The clip in question is from an interview with MTV UK, where the group members were given short lines and asked to guess which one of them had originally said it.
One of the lines they were given to guess was, “I can’t read,” and Manon immediately answered it, pointing at Megan. The singer herself had previously said the line during a livestream while revealing that she had dyslexia.

However, Megan’s reaction didn’t reflect her usual humorous self. Instead, she reacted, showing somewhat frustration, saying, “Okay! We got it! She can’t read. So much fun!” in a sarcastic tone. While some of the members laughed along, others seemed to catch on that the question was not taken well by Megan. Especially, Yoonchae appeared to act fast as she moved on to the next question promptly.

The clip has suddenly resurfaced on X (former Twitter), a month after the interview’s release, and sparked a heated debate. Some criticized Manon and the other members for going along with the joke when Megan was upset with it.

However, others pointed out that the problem lied with the fact that these jokes were being repeated by fans, who are practically strangers to Megan. Some people who themselves have dyslexia also weighed in, explaining that joking about one’s learning disability with close friends is different than being talked about in that manner by strangers.

When has a learning disability ever been funny? If I were megan, I would start throwing hands. https://t.co/UZu7xySLeY

someone joking about being dyslexic doesn’t mean it’s okay for you to dunk on their dyslexia. since common sense is a lost currency. https://t.co/8TV9GHjuRZ

as someone with dyslexia, it is so different when you make jokes or if you joke w your friends ab it than when strangers or ppl who barley know you start joking and belittling you…. and like idk what it is ab dyslexia but ppl always associate with illiteracy and just being dumb https://t.co/6XmsPY2cyU

This incident has once again prompted the KATSEYE fandom to reflect on the pertaining question of where to draw the line when it comes to joking with the members given the candid relationship they have built with each other.
