K-Pop Fans Slam BABYMONSTER’s (Re-)Debut As “Dumb Trick” Bound To Backfire
When YG Entertainment first revealed BABYMONSTER in 2023, the rookie girl group was met with some backlash—with K-Pop fans discussing a possible “re-debut.”
Fast forward to April 1, 2024, YG Entertainment founder Yang Hyun Suk is indeed re-debuting the group…
…calling their first mini-album comeback to be the “official” debut.
The repeated debuts have K-Pop fans more turned off than intrigued.
- “Return the ROTY award, then.”
- “Good to know I wasn’t the only one thrown off by this. When I first heard about a girl group debut from YG Entertainment, I was like, ‘But what about BABYMONSTER?'”
- “A… debut?”

- “If they won a ROTY award last year, then they debuted last year. LMAO.”
- “So… How will they refer to the idols who debuted between their two debuts? As sunbaenims?”
Some expressed confusion, as BABYMONSTER has already won a “Rookie of the Year” award at the 2023 CIRCLE CHART Music Awards, “making them a debuted group.”
- “How many times can a group debut?”
- “Mind blown…”
- “But how? Because the group never went on any music shows? Does that actually make it their pre-debut, though?”
- “This is so embarrassing, LMAO. It’s obvious YG Entertainment is flopping.”
- “A re-debut, LOL.”
Others expressed discontent, slamming Yang for his “dumb trick” bound to backfire—claiming that the re-debut will only label BABYMONSTER as a “flop” and work negatively against the girl group.
- “But BABYMONSTER has two whole songs out… LOL. Like, WDYM?”
- “Not funny… He’s literally letting the girls be clowned. This is so embarrassing.”
- “I thought they had debuted already?”

A handful of fans even expressed concern that this “nonsense” will only set a precedent, allowing other K-Pop groups to “keep debuting” until “the right reactions happen.”
