LE SSERAFIM’s Chaewon Confesses How She Really Feels About Showing Her True Personality As An Idol
Being a celebrity can often mean having to play a character as opposed to being oneself. But there are some K-Pop idols who have bridged the gap between their “character” and their real personalities, letting fans see them for who they really are.
Having debuted with former girl group IZ*ONE before joining rookie girl group LE SSERAFIM, Chaewon has already had plenty of experience navigating the line between her celebrity persona and her true self.
In a recent interview with Weverse Magazine, Chaewon got real about the image she presents on variety shows. Journalist Yoon Haein commented that Chaewon comes across as pretty unfiltered, though that wasn’t always the case in her past career.
You’re pretty unfiltered when you’re on variety shows, aren’t you? As someone who used to take a step back, wasn’t it hard finding how to present the right image on such shows?

Chaewon admitted that she had to put in some effort to make that happen, and it was all because of LE SSERAFIM.
I want to tell people about our group—I want to really promote it. I think I felt a sense of responsibility there that had me keep putting in the effort. It wasn’t really all that hard, and I think that ambition is what made it all possible.

Yoon Haein made note of the word “ambition,” asking her, “Does your ambition trump your personality?” Chaewon agreed that it does. But she explained that she’s also simply become more comfortable showing her true self onscreen now, since “being an idol caused my personality to change.”
Chaewon explained that she now feels like she is able to show her true self even on variety shows or public appearances.
But I was just pushing that part of myself down and hiding it. It’s not something I made up. I think I’m more comfortable showing my true self now that being an idol has caused my personality to change. Now the energy I have when I’m with people I’m close with has made its way onto the screen as well.

While she wasn’t always comfortable being this open, fans are definitely seeing more of her genuine personality now.
Chaewon has come a long way since she first debuted as a K-Pop idol, and with the success she’s already seen with LE SSERAFIM, it’ll be exciting to see how far she goes next!
