Lee Seung Gi Voices Out Concerns About His Daughter
Singer-actor Lee Seung Gi opened up about his realistic worries as a father. He revealed that he’s been deeply contemplating his 21-month-old daughter’s future path, sharing his honest feelings about fatherhood. Despite his glamorous career in the entertainment industry, Lee confessed that he doesn’t wish for his daughter to follow in his footsteps.
On the November 26 broadcast of MBC FM4U’s Noon Hope Song, Lee appeared as a guest to promote his new song “By Your Side.” During the show, he spoke candidly about how parenting has changed his values in life and expressed his tender affection for his daughter, capturing listeners’ attention.
Host Kim Shin Young questioned his plans for his daughter. Previously, Lee Seung Gi expressed his wishes for her to attend a specialized school.
“Didn’t you once say that you don’t expect your child to excel academically but you’d still like her to attend a science high school? If she turns out to be very talented at singing, would you let her become a singer?”
Lee Seung Gi admitted that his statement was rather contradictory. Although he did not want to force his daughter to study hard, he wanted her to be self-motivated.
“Even I can tell that what I said doesn’t make much sense. I don’t want to force her to ‘study hard,’ but I guess I was hoping she would be self-motivated and achieve things on her own. I’ve given up on that too—I just want her to follow whatever path she truly wants.”
However, he spoke firmly when it came to the idea of his daughter entering showbiz. “
That’s something I’ve been thinking about even before she was born. Personally, I really hope she doesn’t. Having experienced this industry firsthand through variety shows and music, I know it can be rewarding, but getting to that point requires tremendous sacrifice and hardship. Now I finally understand the saying, ‘Studying was the easiest part.’ Studying happens within the safe boundaries of school, but the entertainment world has no fences—it’s like the wild, where you must survive on your own. I don’t know if I could bear to watch my own child go through that.”
Lee Seung Gi married Lee Da In, daughter of actress Kyun Mi Ri, in April 2023, and they welcomed their first daughter in February 2024.
