Rookie Idol’s “Clingy Boyfriend” Moment Goes Viral—Only To Spark Heated Reactions About What’s “Healthy”
A video of LUN8 member Chael‘s interaction with a noona fan has gone viral…

…only to spark divided reactions about K-Pop idols, what it means to be one, and what is considered “normal” among fans.
At a recent fansign event, @DoHpaminx (on X) recorded their conversation with Chael. When the fan tells Chael they won’t be coming to the next fansign event because they have other plans, Chael pulls a “clingy boyfriend” and acts jealous of whatever else they have going on.

Chael: Why not?
Fan: I have plans.
Chael: What plans?
Fan: Huh?
Chael: What kind of plans?
Fan: I’m going out to have fun.
Chael: To where?
Fan: What?
Chael: With who?
Fan: (Laughs) Why do you ask?
Chael: With who???
Fan: Just… [Redacted]
Chael: Who are you going with?
Fan: Hmm?
Chael: Tell me who. Is it with a guy or a girl?
Fan: Just… You know…
Chael: Huh?
Fan: With a group.
Chael: [Slams pen on table] With a group?
Fan: Yeah… What! I’m going with a bunch of friends. We do this every year.
Chael: Right?
Fan: Right.
When the fan explains that they’ll be hanging out with a mixed group of male and female friends, Chael takes up the act a notch and tells them not to see any other guys.

Chael: It’s nothing else?
Fan: Like what?
Chael: You’re not going on a date with another guy or anything?
Fan: I mean… I could if I wanted to.
Chael: No?
Fan: Why not?
Chael: Because what about me? You have me.
Fan: What about you?
Chael: You should be with me! I want to be the only guy in your life.
Fan: What are you talking about?!
Chael: It should just be me.
Fan: I don’t think so.
Chael: You don’t think so?!
Fan: No, because I would like to get married eventually.
While the fan posted the interaction highlighted in a playful manner, noting, “Listen. Sometimes, even the fangirls do need to go live real life,” the video ended up fueling a heated discussion about the dark side of K-Pop: parasocial relationships.

- “He’s making that money, LMAO.”
- “Oh wow. Fansigns these days are something else…”
- “Well, he’s just good at what he does. If the fan was happy, all is fine.”
- “He’s asking you to spend more money on him, LMAO. This would turn me off so quickly.”
- “He’s working hard for that money… I should, too.”
- “I hate parasocial relationships.”

- “He was born to be an idol, lol. I’m sure the fan had a great time.”
- “I’m not into this at all, but I can see how he’s trying. I guess those who don’t even try this much are the real problem.”
- “He’s not going to be in your life unless you pay him.”
- “Another good-looking idol on my radar!”
- “Wow, he’s handsome.”
- “This could honestly trick some fans into really thinking they have something special going on with the idols… when it’s just work for them.”

- “This industry is honestly bizarre.”
- “He’s handsome.”
- “Yikes. Seeing him act like that so openly gives me the creeps… but I guess fans like it? I really don’t get K-Pop at all.”
- “This feels like it’s fostering unhealthy behavior.”
- “Look. People who paid the money can do whatever they want. Why are people who have nothing to do with this making all fuss?”
- “Some of the things he says are… kind of a lot.”
- “Isn’t he just being good at playing along? I personally prefer even over-the-top interactions like this over ones that feel cold and awkward, LOL.”
- “I can’t believe this isn’t considered creepy. This is wild.”
- “Honestly, the people who go there go because they like that kind of thing. What’s the point of us butting in? It’s just supply and demand matching up… Still better than dead silence.”
