Meiqi and Xuanyi’s Future With Cosmic Girls Is Unclear
Now that K-Pop girl group Cosmic Girls‘ Chinese members Meiqi and Xuanyi are also the 1st and 2nd place winners of the Chinese version of Produce 101 to debut as Rocket Girls in China, it is unclear what will actually happen to the girls’ careers.
Meiqi and Xuanyi swept the Chinese Produce 101, each winning over 180 million votes from the Chinese viewers.
The finalists, now named “Rocket Girls”, will be debuting as a project group to promote together for a limited time of two years.
I.O.I from the Korean Produce 101 Season 1 promoted together for a little less than a year, from May 2016 to January 2017. Wanna One from Season 2 debuted in August 2017 and will be promoting a little over a year until disbandment in December 2018.
Regarding the two K-Pop idol finalists who belong to another group already, the Chinese Produce 101‘s producer stated, “For the next two years, Meiqi and Xuanyi will promote solely with Rocket Girls and will not be in any overlapping promotions for Cosmic Girls.”

Starship Entertainment, in management of Cosmic Girls, claimed otherwise in an official statement of its own and said the members will still promote with Cosmic Girls when the schedule allows.
“Meiqi and Xuanyi will be promoting in both China and Korea. The promotions between Cosmic Girls and Rocket Girls will be well-arranged so there will be no scheduling issues for these girls.” — Starship Entertainment
With the conflicting statements from the Chinese producer and the Korean management agency, fans aren’t sure what to expect in the future for these two members.
While no further statement has been made from either party, Korean fans believe this will be resolved like Wanna One’s Minhyun’s case. Minhyun belonged to NU’EST before he re-debuted with Wanna One. The remaining NU’EST members formed a unit called NU’EST W and has been promoting without Minhyun until his expected return in December.
Best wishes to Meiqi and Xuanyi, as both Cosmic Girls and Rocket Girls!
