Popular K-Drama Actor Reveals He Debuted Out Of Spite Toward His Celebrity Ex-Girlfriend

Actor Oh Min Suk revealed the unexpected reason he entered the entertainment industry.

In the latest episode of MBC Standard FM’s Women’s Generation With Yang Hee Eun and Kim Il Joong, the long-time K-Drama actor appeared as a guest alongside comedian Kim Ji Sun. During the episode, he shared stories from his career and his current play, Mrs. Markham.

While talking about his life, Oh Min Suk revealed that his acting career began because of an ex-girlfriend. According to the actor, his then-girlfriend suddenly broke up with him because she wanted to become a celebrity.

At the time, the girlfriend I was dating told me she was going to become a celebrity and said she wanted to break up with me… I had absolutely no interest in that field, so it felt really out of nowhere.

The surprise only grew after their breakup. Just a few months later, while serving in the military, Oh Min Suk saw his ex-girlfriend on TV.

After we broke up, exactly two or three months later, I was watching TV in the barracks during my military service, and I saw my ex-girlfriend making her debut. I was so dumbfounded.

“I thought she was going to make it big, appear on TV for the rest of her life, and torment me,” he said. Rather than simply moving on, though, Oh Min Suk hilariously admitted that he decided to enter the industry himself out of spite! And ironically, things did not go the way he expected.

The funny thing is, she quit six months after debuting, and I’ve been doing this for 20 years.
