Where Else Have You Seen The Rising New Face In The “Revenant”?

He has starred in one hit after another!

SBS TV’s latest hit K-Drama, Revenant, has been sweeping ratings every week. The story follows a young woman, Gu San Yeong (played by Kim Tae Ri), who teams up with a folklore professor, Yeom Hae Sang (played by Oh Jung Se), to figure out the truth behind the paranormal suicides occurring all around the city. Yeon can see ghosts, while Gu San Yeong is possessed by a spirit, leading to an unlikely allyship between the two.

Hong Kyung, the third actor in the main cast, plays the role of Lee Hong Sae. Lee is a lieutenant in the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Violent Crime Investigation Unit and Gu San Yeong’s school senior. As he gets involved in investigating the mystery suicides in the city, he finds himself chasing clues and patterns that challenge his pragmatism.

So far, fans love Hong’s performance as the apparently cold, bold, and practical-minded Lee Hong Sae. With the amount of attention he has gained with this series, it wouldn’t be unfair to consider Revenant as his breakthrough project. But to K-Drama veterans, he is a familiar face.

So, where have you seen Hong Kyung before?

The 27-year-old actor saw his first viral moment during the 2021 Baeksang Arts Awards when he was awarded the Best New Actor award for his convincing portrayal of the younger brother with autism in the K-Movie Innocence. His nerve-filled acceptance speech was so adorably messy that netizens couldn’t help but fall in love with him.

But he debuted as an actor in 2017 in the drama Queen of Mystery, and since then, he has appeared in multiple shows, movies, and web series. Here’s a rundown of his most memorable projects over the past years:

2017:

After his debut, Hong appeared in the Lee Jong Suk and Suzy-starrer While You Were Sleeping. Though he had a cameo in this show, he appeared in multiple episodes, making his face familiar to viewers.

2019:

Hong appeared in one of the most popular K-Dramas of 2019, Hotel Del Luna, starring IU. He appeared as a cameo character in episode 4.
