According to reports, the MLS’s summer signings guaranteed Son an annual salary of 10.4 million USD and a total compensation of 11.2 million USD from Los Angeles FC (LAFC).

Messi, on the other hand, receives a 12 million USD annual salary and earns around 20.4 million USD in total compensation from his club, Inter Miami. These sums include his earnings from his initial MLS deal, which runs through the 2025 season.

Interestingly, the two players’ total salary alone exceeds the total payroll of 21 out of the 30 MLS clubs this season. Son Heung Min’s arrival in the league last summer marked a major shift. He joined LAFC in August after more than a decade at Tottenham Hotspur with a record-breaking 28 million USD transfer deal. Since joining, he has scored nine goals in ten regular-season MLS matches.

With his new earnings, Son Heung Min has become the highest-paid Asian soccer player in the history of MLS, marking an important milestone for all Asian athletes on the global stage.
