Son Sung Deuk Spills On How The BTS Members Help Each Other During Rehearsals For The 2022 GRAMMYs

They always have each other’s backs!

BTS‘s teamwork never fails to amaze us, and they proved just how strong their teamwork is during rehearsals for the 2022 GRAMMYs (also known as the 64th GRAMMY Awards).

In a new interview with Weverse Magazine, BTS’s performance director and choreographer, Son Sung Deuk, explained that the members always work better when they’re together as 7. He said he “could really tell when they were practicing that it has to be all seven of them—that these guys really shine when they come together as a team.”

During most of the rehearsals, RM, Suga, Jimin, and V rehearsed without Jin, J-Hope, and Jungkook. J-Hope and Jungkook were both in quarantine due to COVID-19 and Jin was recovering from a finger injury. However, when the members did get to rehearse together, their teamwork truly shone. Son Sung Deuk said, “ It’s actually not their individual abilities that’s important but the harmony between all the members, so I was really amazed by the synergy they exhibited as I watched them once they were all back together.”

Rehearsals for the performance’s jacket dance break were where the members really showed off their teamwork. They had to dance through lasers and connect their jackets to one another’s jackets during the live performance, and they worked hard to create a legendary dance break together.

During rehearsals, the members struggled to dance around the lasers, but they came together to come up with a solution to the problem. RM slid across the floor to figure out how to get past the lasers without being hit by them. After Jimin said it was impossible to avoid being hit by the lasers, V said the members would just have to act as if the lasers hurt if they touched the lasers during the performance.

During rehearsals for the jacket dance break, Suga was working on making his dancing look cooler, and one of the members suggested that he put less effort into his dancing in order to make it look effortless.

Although Jin couldn’t participate in the dance break with the members, he “danced with them in spirit” and cheered them on. His encouragement definitely added to the members’ motivation, too. He also put on a great performance as the technician while the members performed the choreography. Instead of sitting on the sidelines while the members performed, he proved how committed he was to the group by involving himself in the performance in every way possible. He even joined them for the final part of the choreography!

While we always knew that the members work exceptionally well together as a team, these anecdotes from their 2022 GRAMMYs rehearsals are even more proof!
