The 81-year-old actor was charged in 2022 with sexually assaulting a woman twice. The victim accused him of hugging and kissing her on the cheek against her will. In 2024, Oh was found guilty and given an eight-month suspended prison sentence by the Suwon District Court.

Oh then claimed that his 8-month sentence with a 2-year suspension was “too harsh,” considering he had already been “punished by the people” for his actions, and proceeded to appeal the ruling.

On Tuesday, November 11, KST, the court overturned his sentence, stating that he had taken classes on sexual violence. The new ruling also suggested that the victim’s memory may have been distorted, considering that the incident occurred long ago, in 2017.

However, the court statement also made it clear that it was possible that Oh had committed the assault, given that he had apologized to the victim. The victim later spoke out against the verdict through a statement to the women’s rights organization called Womenlink, saying, “Despite today’s ruling, I will continue to speak the truth to the very end.” Womenlink also criticized the ruling, accusing it of trying to “conceal sexual violence in the theater world.”

It is unclear whether the prosecution will appeal the verdict.
