“Unforgiven, I’m A Villain”: LE SSERAFIM Members Name Their Favorite Villains In Pop Culture
LE SSERAFIM recently came back with their first studio album UNFORGIVEN with a catchy title track of the same name.
An anagram of the words “I’m fearless,” LE SSERAFIM is a girl group that spreads positive messages of being fearless and unshakable through their music. The lyrics for “UNFORGIVEN” is about being unapologetically yourself even if it means being unforgiven for breaking standards made by society.
In an exclusive interview with Consequence, LE SSERAFIM member Kim Chaewon shared that she wanted the song’s message to be positive and empowering.
While preparing for this album, we paid special attention to the overall message of the songs since we wanted to convey a positive and empowering message to FEARNOT and everyone who’s listening. We hope our music can be an oasis in your everyday life.
— Kim Chaewon
The famous line repeated throughout the song is “Unforgiven/ I’m a villain.” The choreography for this part shows LE SSERAFIM giving themselves devil ears with their index fingers. When asked which pop culture villains they liked the most, some members shared their favorite bad guys.
First, Sakura said her favorite villain from pop culture is Elphaba from the musical Wicked. Elphaba is a misunderstood character with green skin, who everyone believes is a villain because the Wizard had spread propaganda to make her seem like one.
Next, Huh Yunjin shared that her favorite villain is Loki, the Marvel character. She explained that she was always fascinated by villains because of the complexity of their stories.
I actually have always had an affinity for villains, they’re far more interesting to me than heroes. Their stories are so complex, because nobody is born a villain, villains are made. My favorite villain though is probably Loki. My dog is named after him.
— Huh Yunjin
Loki is known as the God of Mischief who does whatever he can to become the King of Asgard.
Lastly, Hong Eunchae said Randall from the Disney/Pixar film Monsters, Inc. is her favorite villain. Randall is a monster resembling a chameleon driven by his jealousy towards Sully because he wants to become the top “scarer.” He has the ability to change his skin color to blend in with his surroundings.
Although Eunchae did not specify why she chose Randall as her favorite villain in the interview, she did explain her expectations for their new album.
We poured our hearts and souls into this album, so we really hope that our fans can sense the passion and dedication that went into it. We’re super excited for everyone to hear it, and we promise that it will be worth the wait!
— Hong Eunchae
