Toward the end of its 13-episode run, Waave‘s reality dating show, Love Alarm Clap! Clap! Clap! gained attention around the world after it appeared that a fan-favorite pairing would become the show’s first LGBTQ+ couple.

The reality show is based on the popular webtoon and K-Drama, where a dating app called “Love Alarm” has been developed that tells users if someone within 10 meters has romantic feelings for them.

In the reality show, the contestants can choose two users to receive their “heart” in the “Love Alarm” app each day, and the contestant with the most hearts at the end of the show wins. Like the popular reality dating show Single’s Inferno, the contestants compete under a moniker to add some mystery surrounding their true identity.

Two episodes away from the finale, contestants Jasmine and White Rose stole the hearts of fans worldwide when Jasmine bravely stepped forward to go on a date with White Rose.

There are no laws in place to legally protect against discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in South Korea. Although there has been a gradual shift, mostly among the younger generations, toward greater acceptance in recent years, discrimination and prejudice toward the LGBTQ+ community still exist.

The moment Jasmine approached White Rose, and she accepted the date quickly went viral, earning praise from netizens and even bringing the show’s host, prominent entertainer and restauranteur Hong Seok Cheon, to tears.

While the heartwarming moment touched many, those feelings soon turned to anger when netizens widely accused the show of queerbaiting audiences as promotional videos alluding to Jasmine and White Rose being together were found to be edited.

After the show’s shocking finale, which saw Jasmine and White Rose choose fellow contestant Deer to receive their final “Love Alarm” heart, Deer chose Jasmine, making them the winners of the show.

While many fans were upset with the show’s editing and that White Rose and Jasmine were not endgame, investigative netizens found that there may still be hope.

Jasmine, whose real name is Seunghee, posted a photo of herself watching the Love Alarm Clap! Clap! Clap! finale with White Rose, whose real name is Hyo Eun. They were also joined by fellow contestant Tinkerbell, but the fellow winning contestant, Deer, was not present.

Seunghee and Hyo Eun have also posted photos from multiple outings together, and it appears from the photos that they regularly meet up. During their outings, they often adorably capture the moment with photo booth pictures.

Eagle-eyed netizens also noticed that proof of the two hanging out could be traced all the way back to September 2022.

Netizens quickly began to question the ending of the show as Seunghee’s and Hyo Eun’s hangouts became more frequent.

While it’s unknown if they are just close friends or something more, fans are happy to see that they’re enjoying each other’s company!
