“Squid Game” Star Hits Back Hard After Getting Massive Hate For Religious Practice
Actor and rapper Yang Dong Geun, of Squid Game “Player 007” fame, has taken to Instagram to respond to the hate comments he has been getting after his recent update.

On August 1, 2025 (KST), Yang Dong Geun shared a video of his performance at a youth summer camp, noting, “It was such a blessed time.” Given his fans’ knowledge of his devout Christian nature and active involvement in the Christian Contemporary Music (CCM) group K-Spirit, the performance video did not seem out of the ordinary.

But Yang Dong Geun soon faced intense backlash when it was revealed that the event he attended was hosted by a conservative pastor, Son Hyun Bo of Segero Church in Busan—better known for leading rallies against the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk Yeol. Pastor Son is known for heading the evangelical group “Save Korea” during the impeachment turmoil, organizing rallies alongside figures such as Korean history lecturer Jeon Han Gil in opposition to the impeachment.

In response, Yang’s agency, Jo Entertainment, stated, “There were absolutely no political intentions” behind Yang Dong Geun’s participation in the event.
Yang Dong Geun has no connection to the church or the pastor in question. He’s simply a devout Christian who frequently participates in faith-based events.

Yet, criticism continued to grow and, in his latest social media update, Yang Dong Geun did not hold back in snapping at some of the most malicious comments.

Posting a picture of himself with the word “Byungshin” (R*tard) written on his forehead, Yang Dong Geun bid good riddance to those blasting him for the association with the pastor/church. Noting he’s not going to kill himself over this, the actor-rapper hinted at the level of attacks that he has been receiving over the performance.

I was the fool for trusting you…
Guys, go ahead and be disappointed. Say whatever you want.
You have every right to.But it’s not like I can just go kill myself, you know?

His fiery response has, inevitably, added fuel to the fire as more netizens debate whether Yang Dong Geun could truly not have known Pastor Son’s political involvement.

- “Oh, wait… So he went to perform there without knowing? That must’ve been awkward. People obsessed with politics need to chill, seriously.”
- “If he really didn’t know, that’s a relief. I hope he’s being sincere.”
- “Everyone, please stop already. Some of you are way too quick to type hateful stuff.”
- “But what’s up with that post? As a dad, if he’s going to use photos of his kid, he should’ve made a more thoughtful statement.”
- “If he just went for the event, then let’s not overreact…”
- “Whatever. Saying it was a ‘blessed time’ after attending a rally that would’ve gotten you whipped if Jesus were alive, LOL.”
- “There’s no need to go swarm him and leave hate comments. He probably panicked after seeing the backlash. Even if you don’t like what happened, don’t cross the line with your words.”
