“What a horrible way to start the new year…”

Ahead of the debut, there was a lot of uncertainty after it was postponed, and then the announcement that Ahyeon would not be debuting due to health reasons but that she was still in BABYMONSTER.

After a long wait, BABYMONSTER finally made their debut with “Batter Up,” but it was met with mixed reactions.

Since the release, it has been quiet from BABYMONSTER with no music performances or any promotions. In a new video released on January 1, YG Entertainment founder Yang Hyun Suk spoke about the plans for BABYMONSTER in the future.

He even revealed the title of the track, called “Stuck In The Middle.”

Considering his role in choosing the members and the show, many were curious about why Yang Hyun Suk played a much bigger role with BABYMONSTER than other girl groups like 2NE1 and BLACKPINK.

He revealed that the previous groups debuted at a much older age, and he saw BABYMONSTER like his daughters (as his own daughter is 13 years old) rather than just junior artists.

He also addressed Ahyeon’s absence, sharing her hiatus reasons and that they will update fans with her condition in due time.

Yang Hyun Suk then revealed that plans for BABYMONSTER’s first mini-album seems to be set for next April.

Yet, while many BABYMONSTER fans should be happy with the update on both the group’s music and Ahyeon, it was overshadowed by the appearance of Yang Hyun Suk.

Netizens weren’t happy with the announcement. In particular, while many K-Pop companies make big announcements through groups or press releases, netizens didn’t like that it was Yang Hyun Suk doing it, adding that he’s making BABYMONSTER all about him.

For many fans, the debut of BABYMONSTER fell flat with it being postponed, then Ahyeon’s absence, along with what many called a disappointing first single. Hopefully, YG’s plans show some commitment to the group and a much brighter 2024.
