IU Spills On Her First Impression Of KARA’s Gyuri

IU recently hosted her 16th episode of IU’s Palette and had a special guest, the reunited second-generation group KARA.

KARA debuted in 2007, and IU debuted in 2008; they had frequently crossed paths during promotions after their respective debuts.

KARA came together as a group for the first time in 6 years, releasing a new album to commemorate their 15th anniversary.

To kick off their episode of IU’s Palette, KARA began with a dance medley of a few of their top hits, including “Lupin,” “Honey,” “Step,” and “Mister.”

After their dance, which IU adorably joined from the sidelines, the group sat down for a touching interview with their hoobae, IU.

IU shared that it was the first time she was meeting with the group in a while. There was a mutual admiration between the artists and their years of history together. IU revealed that she was approached about KARA being on her show while preparing for her The Golden Hour concert. Although she wasn’t confident she would have the time, she knew she had to make it happen.

KARA’s Jiyoung shared that she was the one who originally had the idea, and she “strongly insisted” that they appear on the program.

Now that they were finally together, IU had one topic she wanted to open with: her admiration of KARA’s leader Gyuri.

The gorgeous leader became known as “Goddess Gyuri,” an assertion she often made herself in the group’s early days. Although it was initially received with mixed reactions by netizens, the fitting nickname caught on and became a lasting title for Gyuri.

IU shared that she still thinks the nickname suits the beautiful idol and spilled her first impression of Gyuri when she was younger.

IU was inspired by Gyuri’s self-confidence, although Gyuri admitted her concept was not understood at the time. In the end, IU admired her consistency and hilariously compared it to “brainwashing” because of the successful way the nation began to recognize her as a “goddess.”
