LE SSERAFIM’s Chaewon Reveals Her True Feelings About Being Offered The Leader Role

She shares how she feels about the role a year later.

LE SSERAFIM‘s debut was highly anticipated, and excitement grew with rumors that beloved former IZ*ONE members would be joining the group.

Many were thrilled when it was confirmed that Sakura and Chaewon, both former IZ*ONE members, had officially signed contracts with Source Music in March 2022 and were preparing to debut in their upcoming girl group.

Although Sakura is the oldest, she hilariously requested not to be the leader as the only condition of her contract. That hasn’t stopped her from helping the other members navigate being an idol with her decade of experience in the industry.

Chaewon was named the leader of the group, taking on the role naturally as she, too, uses her experience to help guide her fellow members.

In her interview with Weverse Magazine, Chaewon revealed that she was approached about becoming the leader and shared her initial response to the offer.

Chaewon shared that she hesitated to accept the leader position, feeling nervous about accepting, but after a year into their debut, she didn’t know what she was so worried about.

I had to build up a lot of courage to agree to be the leader when the label made the suggestion but now I have no idea what I was so worried about or why I was so hesitant.

That doesn’t mean being the leader has come without challenges, and Chaewon admitted she sometimes felt the pressure of her role.

At times I do feel the pressure of being a leader but I think everyone needs a healthy dose of pressure. Being a leader has made me more responsible and more mature.

Chaewon feels the most pressure when trying to represent the group and meet the expectations of being a leader.

That’s where her fellow members come in to lighten the burden, as they’ve each grown into themselves more over the last year and have all begun finding their voice in the group.

As a leader, you are expected to do certain things to represent the group, which can feel daunting.  But with time, our members really came through and started speaking up more, which lifted some of that pressure for me. It feels like we’re all moving forward together now. We’ve come quite far.
